METHOD & TREATMENT
A treatment at the VoetPortaal Podotherapist follows a fixed structure.
The first visit
On your first visit, we ask you to bring the following:
- An ID / passport / driver’s license
- A referral from the general practitioner or specialist (if referred)
- If you come to determine your care profile for your diabetes, we kindly request you to bring your referral letter.
There is also a good chance that we will ask you to take off not only your socks and shoes, but also your pants for the examination. Make sure you wear appropriate underwear that you are comfortable with.
If you also already use or have recently used soles or adapted shoes, we request that you bring them with you.
Every first visit will start with a history / interview. After this, the interview turns into the investigation.
The therapist will inspect your feet for details such as the nails, skin, the position of the feet, and the position of the rest of your body in relation to your feet.
In addition, a gait analysis is made to see how your feet function. The podiatrist will feel your feet in order to detect painful spots and / or abnormalities.
By collecting all this information, the therapist gets a good and comprehensive picture of your foot function and what the most suitable treatment could be for you.
If necessary, additional examinations can be performed to assess your feet for their pressure distribution. Sometimes the wear (in unusual places) of your shoes shows that the pressure distribution of your feet is not ideal.
In order to measure this very accurately, we work with Parocontour® (a method for digital foot measurement) and RS footscan® (a modern scan for pressure measurement of the foot). In addition, ultrasound (MSU: Musculo Skeletal Ultrasound) can be used as a diagnostic and evaluation tool, allowing for more targeted treatment.
