What is MSK?
Musculoskeletal Medicine (MSK) is a relatively young medical field that focuses on the analysis and treatment of complaints of the posture and locomotor system (musculoskeletal). MSK Medicine integrates knowledge from the various disciplines that are concerned with the posture and musculoskeletal system as separate specialisms.
With which complaints can you go to the MSK doctor?
Many postural and musculoskeletal disorders are accompanied by reactions such as pain and disability. The cause of this is often in a different place than the pain, as a result of which it falls outside the focus of the relevant specialism and is therefore not always interpreted. From its broad background, MSK Medicine maps the responses in order to arrive at the best treatment method to reduce the complaints.
Examples of complaints that you can contact the MSK doctor:
- Pain in muscles and joints: back, neck and shoulder complaints, rib complaints, ankle and foot complaints, pelvic complaints, hand and wrist complaints, groin and hamstring complaints, Achilles tendon complaints.
- Complaints after an accident: neck complaints / whiplash after a car accident, lower back complaints.
- Pain complaints after hernia surgery.
- Faint pains or tingling in the arms, legs, chest or head, headache, migraine, dizziness, palpitations, unexplained abdominal pain, chest or rib pain.
Do I need a referral?
Your general practitioner or specialist can refer you to us, but you can also contact an MSK doctor directly. Treatments by the MSK doctor are reimbursed from the additional insurance and are therefore not at the expense of your deductible. Many health insurers reimburse the costs from the alternative medicine section.
